The bringing coffee to an interview controversy!

These little work pop culture viral debates are fun, aren’t they?! As usual I found out about it after the fact via an NPR story this past Friday and then rabbit holed it. These things give you a lot of different perspectives and ideas about not just the inciting incident but work practices and culture in this area across the spectrum. However, the author was specifically talking about “buttoned up” Fortune 500 companies. More than likely it doesn’t apply to other, more casual environments where this would be fine. This comes down to the corporate culture of the place one would go to interview, and in doing research that’s one of the things one would be looking at to see, if in order to appear to be a fit for that culture, whether or not it’s ok to walk in with a drink. Something else which is not discussed much is the potential awkwardness and consequences of that is having another prop besides your folder, pad of paper, hard copies etc. Where is one going to set it down depending on the room you’re in and what if it spills?! Those things happen and if it does that won’t be fun. Personally, I take a mini water bottle if I need a swig. Granted caffeine is a miracle drug but there are other ways to get a fix namely caffeine pills sold in most stores, and half the country is on Adderall and Vyvanse so there is also that!
